A trio of first time winners have etched their names onto the trophies of one of Australian amateur golf's most prestigious events, the Riversdale Cup.

On a near perfect Sunday afternoon in Melbourne, Max Ford of Royal Queensland (men's), Abbie Teasdale of Royal Fremantle (women's) and Englishman Mike Browne (all abilities) all prevailed in stunning fashion.

In the men's, Ford finished one shot clear of West Australian Connor Fewkes and fellow Queenslander Samuel Slater at 11-under par for the tournament.

Brisbane-based Ford got off to a flyer in round one with a scintillating seven-under par round of 65, but it appeared he had let his chance at victory slip with a second round 76.

Early on Saturday, it was looking even more dire courtesy of a bogey in the initial stages of his round, however a birdie at the eighth changed the momentum and he never looked back.

Six birdies on the back nine meant that he went one shy of his impressive opening round number, and that effort was largely responsible for setting up his victory.

The final round was not as smooth sailing, but the birdies dropped at crucial times - namely the 13th and 15th holes - and it was enough for Ford to lift the cup.

On the women's side, Teasdale carded four-under for the week to be two shots ahead of New Zealander Fiona Xu.

Like Ford, Teasdale's victory was largely down to a Saturday blitz where she shot the only round below 70 for the tournament with a bogey free, five-under par 68,

That performance allowed the West Australian to simply play to par with a 73 on Sunday to clinch the title - her first in an all ages amateur event.
