Tea Tree Gully Golf Club has won the 2021 SA Division 1 Senior Pennant
Tea Tree Gully Golf Club has won the 2021 SA Division 1 Senior Pennant with a dominant win over Royal Adelaide Golf Club 5.5 matches to 1.5 matches.
Tea Tree Gully have only lost Senior Pennant once in the competitions 15-year history, losing the trophy to Blackwood Golf Club in the 2020 final. After a one-year hiatus, the return of the trophy to Tea Tree Gully was a fitting outcome with the Division 1 trophy being renamed in 2021 to the ‘John Davey Memorial Trophy’ after the passing of club great, John Davey, earlier this year.
Lead by Team Captain, Chris Everett, ‘The Gullies’ had four wins in with Phillip Allen winning his match on the 21st hole, Craig Gordon battling to a 1-up victory, Jim Richards punching his way to a 2&1 win and Norm Cordina showing absolute class defeating SA Hall of Fame member, David Cherry 7&6. With four wins in, the remaining three matches were declared halved which kept Ken Brown’s record of only losing two matches in 14 seasons intact. A touching moment for Everett and his team being awarded the ‘John Davey Memorial Trophy’ by John’s wife Carol-Anne and son, Tim.
In Division 2, Kooyonga Golf Club again proved a powerhouse beating The Grange Golf Club 6 matches to 1. The win sees Kooyonga promoted to Division 1 in an impressive ladder climb after starting the 2020 season in Division 3.
Mount Osmond’s bottom order ensured the Division 3 title was theirs to take home with a prevailing win over Flagstaff Hill Golf Club 5.5 matches to 1.5. With four matches comfortably in, the top order wasn’t required to play on and were back in the clubhouse early to celebrate their promotion into Division 2.
