NEW COURSE RECORD AT YASS BY JARRAD PORTER TO WIN DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS
by Jim Jackson
Yass golfer Jarrad Porter – son of the more famous Yass golfer, Sam Porter, won the ACT-Monaro’s District Championships for 2023 on SUNDAY 17th December, on his home course at Yass, with a fantastic gross score of 63 (5 under par). Jarrad recorded 13 pars and 5 birdies and when I asked him what was his secret, his reply was — “it was just one of those days”.
This is a new course record for the competition blue course that was used on the day. The Yass Golf course was in excellent condition with mostly lush fairways and true greens. A total of 31 low-handicap golfers played in the event with 12 of them actually on +handicaps. The field included a number of current Club Champions. Understandably, this field was dominated by members from the Yass Golf Club (about a third of the field), but there were also significant representations from the Goulburn, Murrumbidgee and Yowani Golf Clubs.
Goulburn Junior Noah Bricknell also had a great round with a Gross Score of 65, also with 5 birdies, but a couple of bogies (one on each nine) resulted in him dropping to 2nd place. Gold Creek’s Paul Bright came in 3rd place with a score of 68.
