Mackenzie Thomas has been crowned the first ever female winner of the Tasmanian Junior Super 6 at Ratho Farm.
“I’m just really excited and proud of myself for how far I’ve come and for making the most of opportunities when they came,” said Thomas.
She defeated defending Champion and this year’s qualifying medallist, Hunter Gillard, 1 up in the matchplay final over 6 holes.
“This win gives me more confidence and belief in myself, as I was able to prove to myself that I have the ability to win tournaments against some amazing state players,” said the 14 year old.
Thomas’ path to the final included victories over 6th seed Koby Wegman in a nearest the pin shot after a sudden death 7th playoff hole, and 7th seed Izak Sterling 2 & 1 in the semi-final. The other semi-final saw Gillard beat Jorjah Bailey 2 up.
“I had a lot of fun this year and this event always gets me so excited. Very happy to have taken out the win and I’m looking forward to next year,” said Thomas
